Mado Sharjah

Mado Sharjah is the Corniche outpost of the long-standing Turkish chain, set across two levels with an outdoor terrace that looks straight onto the waterfront. By day it reads as a bright, family-oriented cafe-bakery with pastries shipped in from Turkey and an open ice-cream counter; by evening, the upstairs dining room and sea-facing terrace take over, and it becomes one of the more pleasant perches on the strip for a slow Turkish dinner. In cool weather the outdoor tables are genuinely the reason to come. The menu runs the familiar Turkish repertoire with care: cold mezze platters built around a fine walnut muhammara, warming lentil soup, hanging skewers of mixed grill, Adana and celtik kofta, and a tender chicken papyon that outperforms some of the heavier kebabs. Turkish breakfast is the other signature - a sprawling saray or sini platter with fresh lavash, menemen, cheeses, and house-baked simit, generous enough to share. Save room for hot-to-order kunafa with the house vanilla ice cream and a properly pulled Turkish coffee, both of which are executed well. Portion sizes are moderate rather than generous, and the kitchen has been known to send plates out slightly cool on busy evenings, so it is worth confirming grills are freshly fired when ordering. Service is warm but uneven, stronger when the regular managers are on the floor. Pricing sits at the higher end for Sharjah and small items like bottled water are notably marked up, which catches some guests off guard; the Entertainer discount eases that considerably for those who carry it. For a relaxed Corniche breakfast, a weekend family lunch, or a Turkish-ice-cream stop after a walk along the waterfront, Mado remains one of the more polished options on the strip.
