Description
Kamat Restaurant sits on Sharjah's King Faisal Street as a dependable outpost of the long-running Indian vegetarian chain known across Karnataka and the Gulf. The dining room is spacious enough to handle large family tables and group celebrations, with clean, unfussy interiors and a steady, family-friendly atmosphere. It is not a place that trades on theatrics: the focus is pure-vegetarian cooking delivered at a pace that keeps up with the lunchtime and weekend crowds.
The menu runs broad, covering South Indian staples alongside North Indian and Indo-Chinese options, with the thali as the house centerpiece and dosas, uthappam, idli, and vada doing much of the daily work. Standouts from the a la carte include the mushroom masala, shahi paneer, palak paneer, garlic naan, and the Lahori aloo, while the kesar kulfi, mango lassi, and falooda close the meal well. The rice, rotis, and naans are consistently well made, and the kitchen happily accommodates off-menu requests such as aloo gobi with a little notice. Portions lean modest rather than generous, and pricing sits slightly above the casual Indian average, reflecting the brand rather than lavishness on the plate.
Service is typically prompt on weekdays, but weekends and public holidays bring queues, tighter tables, and occasional slips in timing when the room is full. Parking around the King Faisal strip can also test patience at peak hours. For diners seeking reliable, quality vegetarian Indian food in a comfortable, family-oriented setting, Kamat remains one of Sharjah's longer-standing options - best enjoyed midweek when the pace is calmer and the kitchen can show its full range.

Food and service is good with what you expect of a Kamath Indian vegetarian restaurant. The washroom, however, stinks. Given that it's a popular tourist spot, attention should be given to this important aspect.
