Description
Set on Flag Island at the base of the 1971 Design Space, Jones the Grocer takes one of Sharjah's more underrated waterfront positions and turns it into an all-day cafe, deli, and restaurant. The room is open-plan and modern, the terrace is broad and well shaded, and the view across the creek takes in the dhows, the fish and vegetable souq, and the low Arabic architecture of the government buildings opposite. Parking is plentiful, a 600-metre running track loops the island, and there is a small play area that makes the venue workable for families - though entry to the play zone is conditioned on a minimum spend per child.
Breakfast is the strongest service and runs late into the weekend. Sweet corn pancakes with poached eggs, the full English, the chicken omelette with sundried tomato chutney, and an acai bowl are reliable orders, and the coffee programme is genuinely considered, with single-origin beans, a good cold drip, and an extensive tea selection. Lunch and dinner lean into sandwiches and wraps (the duck wrap and the sweet chilli chicken ciabatta stand out), a wagyu burger, truffle and mushroom risotto, cottage pie, and Australian steaks. A retail counter and well-stocked cheese room sit near the entrance for anyone putting together a board or taking home oils, spreads, and kitchen kit.
Execution is not always at the level of the Dubai flagships: several reports flag uneven steak cookery and pacing that can run slow even when the room is quiet, and pricing sits at the higher end for Sharjah. Vegetarian options are relatively thin. The service is generally warm, and the setting, views, and weekend breakfast make it a dependable choice for a long, unhurried visit - ideally paired with a walk around the island or an exhibition upstairs.

The Dubai favorite is now in Sharjah. Situated on Flag Island in the very cool 1971 Design Center, this place has a fantastic view, a great selection of cheeses and other gourmet takeaway treats, and a varied dine-in menu. For dinner, we opted for sandwiches, a burger and the cottage pie and all were tasty. A kid under 12 can eat free when you order a dish from the adult main menu. Service was friendly. Desserts and coffee looked good but we didn't have any as we were headed to a exhibition opening in the 1971 Design Center upstairs. There's a small playground for younger kids and a running track on the island. I look forward to going back for breakfast, which is served until 4 pm on weekends and until 12 pm on weekdays.

Jones the grocer is a very good restaurant and has a wide variety of food. It has a children's menu so you can go with younger people. Kids eat free when their parents order a main dish which is very good. In total it is a very good place to go.
