Tucked into a bylane off Buhairah Corniche near Al Majaz, Five Star Restaurant has been quietly feeding Sharjah's families for over a decade, and it remains one of the more individual dining rooms in the area. The ground floor reads as casual multi-cuisine, while the upper level turns theatrical: a cave-themed space with rock-face walls, a waterfall and private family cabins behind fringed curtains. The understated entrance keeps it off the radar of first-time visitors, which is part of its charm. The menu spans Indian, Arabic, Continental, Chinese and Persian cooking, and the kitchen is stronger than the sprawl would suggest. Seafood is the original anchor - live tanks hold fish, crab and lobster, with mixed seafood platters among the dishes to order - and the yellow river seafood soup is a genuinely serious bowl. Mutton biryani with long-grain basmati, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, chicken malai tikka, drums of heaven and gobi manchurian are the dishes that regulars cycle through. The signature Five Star kebab, tandoori chicken and fresh-baked naans come out of a visible kitchen. Saffron milk cake and Umm Ali are the desserts worth saving room for, alongside a short programme of virgin mojitos and fresh pomegranate and mango juices. Value is a consistent strength: a weekday hot buffet around 49 AED, complimentary papadum and sulaimani, welcome lemon-mint shots, and portions big enough to feed four. Valet parking softens the tight lane, and private cabins make it particularly well suited to large family groups. Service is warm and attentive, though on a quiet afternoon the kitchen can run slow, and the occasional delivery order has missed the mark. For a multi-cuisine family dinner in Sharjah that offers character rather than polish, Five Star earns its place.

Whilst in Sharjah on business, i wanted a fairly quick lunch and found this Five Star Restaurant, off the main road, tucked away on a corner. So, i was very surprised when i went in and found a very interesting restaurant ambience and a most impressive menu. Each dish had a high very clear small photograph nest to it, but to study the menu fully needs longer than i had. I decided to have the Arabic Salad and although not one of their most high level dishes it was light and a good hors d' oeuvre choice. Then i decided to try the Mutton Rogan Josh that was tasty, tender and meaty. There was also a typical Biriyani ordered that was very nice and cleanly presented. The buttered chicken was very good also, the sauce was spicy but not too hot. We (there were two others), also had the Marsala bread thing and finished off, being quite full, with a small sweet called Kulcha. I made a note of the dishes as i intend to go again. Interestingly i also noted that the restaurant is HACCP Certified, whatever that means, but apparently you can eat with confidence as the food is safe as well as delicious. Also, i was a bit surprised at the prices because you can choose to spend a lot of money or eat well quite economically.

Another visit to this restaurant and as before, i was not disappointed. In fact, this time it was even cheaper because they have introduced a hot buffet luncheon at a very good price. There were hot chicken and fish dishes with different kinds of rice. Starters were there along with sweets including Umm Ali. I tried a little bit of everything and that made an excellent meal. The restaurant itself has quite a unique ambience and the staff are friendly and obliging, as to be expected of course. We'll worth a visit of reither business or family meals.

The best thing in this resturant is their biryani..soo yummy and in a v.good price..other things n the menue is average
