Al Malaki Rajasthan is a small, family-run thali house tucked behind DPS Sharjah in Muwailih, serving one of the most committed regional Indian meals in the UAE. The format is resolutely traditional: no a la carte menu, no meat, just a fixed vegetarian Rajasthani thali that changes daily, served on a polished steel platter with a rotating cast of small bowls. Folk music plays low in the background, the staff wear Rajasthani dress, and the ambiance - cramped, warm, unapologetically homely - is part of the point.
The meal is the signature experience. A welcome glass of chaas arrives almost before you sit down, followed by a steady parade of starters (dahi vada, kachori, sandwich dhokla), three or four sabzis such as paneer maharani, aloo matar, gatte ki sabzi and Jaipuri gotta, two or three dals, a Rajasthani kadi, tawa pulao, moong khichdi and a table's worth of breads - phulka generous with desi ghee, puri, bajre ki roti finished with jaggery. The weekend Royal Thali brings the full dal baati churma, the dish most regulars plan the visit around, and desserts like moong dal halwa, malpua and apple basundi close things out. Refills keep coming until diners actively resist, and accompaniments of papad, pickle and chutney round out the plate.
Pricing is genuinely striking - around 30 AED for an adult thali, half for children under nine - and quality on the whole is strong. The room holds only about fifteen tables, so weekend lunches can involve a 15 to 45 minute wait; booking ahead is essential. The setting is modest and service can drift when the kitchen is under pressure, but on a good day the experience resembles being fed at a Rajasthani wedding. It suits families, vegetarians and anyone seeking honest regional Indian cooking over restaurant polish.

I heard about the restaurant from a friend of mine. I had a lunch on a Friday and I was in for a pleasant surprise. Excellent food with a lot of variety served with love. We enjoyed the overall experience of the meal and the ambience very much. The waiters were always smiling and keen to serve. My children who are normally junk eaters were also very excited with the variety of food. I would definitely recommend. A lunch tali is AED 30 for adults and AED 15 for children
