El Manza Restaurant

El Manza is Sharjah's most complete Moroccan dining room, set directly on the Al Majaz Waterfront with views over Khalid Lagoon and a front-row seat to the evening fountain show. The interior leans into the classical Marrakesh template - lanterns, carved wood, warm colour, low lighting - without tipping into theme-restaurant territory, and the upstairs terrace is one of the more atmospheric places in the emirate for a meal between November and February. The menu is an honest survey of Moroccan cooking rather than a tourist-pleasing abridgement. Start with harira marakshia, the slow-cooked tomato, lentil and lamb soup, alongside a spread of mezze that includes harissa, grilled aubergine, beetroot and mushroom salads. The tagines are the kitchen's strongest work: lamb bel barkouk with prunes, almonds and sesame is the signature, chicken mhammer turns on saffron and turmeric, and the couscous fassi with caramelised onion and mutton makes a persuasive case for a cuisine many first-time diners do not know how to order. Vegetarian tagines and a vegetable couscous are offered without the afterthought energy they receive elsewhere, and the meal finishes properly with Moroccan pastries and mint tea poured from a height. Portions are generous and designed for sharing, and pricing is fair for the waterfront location. Service is attentive and genuinely knowledgeable - the illustrated tablet menu is a thoughtful touch for diners new to the cuisine - though pace can slow noticeably on busy weekends, so the room rewards an unhurried evening rather than a quick dinner before a show. It suits couples, business tables, and extended family gatherings equally well, with a private upstairs room for larger parties.
