Arabic
Description
Al Kabab Al Afghani is a long-standing Afghan kitchen in Al Jubail, the kind of unpretentious, community-anchored restaurant that taxi drivers and residents recommend to first-time visitors. The dining room offers two ways to eat: conventional tables in the main hall, and a carpeted dais where you can sit on cushions in the traditional Afghan style. Screened partitions are set up for family groups, and the room runs quietly clean even on busy evenings.
The cooking is confident and plain in the best sense. Qabuli pulao - long-grain rice scented with caramelised carrot, raisins and slow-cooked lamb - is the defining order, and the kebabs (mutton, chicken and the chapli cutlet) arrive charred and juicy off the grill. Every main is accompanied by a complimentary soup, a dish of fresh vegetables and herbs, and an enormous oven-baked Afghan nan brought straight from the tandoor, which makes the core menu feel more generous than the prices suggest. A tomato-based mutton curry and a creditable hummus round out the savoury side, and the house ice cream, lightly scented with fennel, is a distinctive way to finish.
Portions are unusually large - one order easily stretches to two modest appetites, and a family of six can eat well for under 100 AED - which makes this one of the most honest value propositions in the emirate. Staff are warm and attentive, the picture-led menu helps diners unfamiliar with Afghan cuisine, and delivery is quick for takeaway. The decor is functional rather than styled and the front-of-house English is limited, but neither detracts from what the kitchen is trying to do. For anyone curious about Afghan cooking or simply after a hearty, well-priced grill dinner, this remains one of Sharjah's most reliable addresses.

Well I at here several times. The portions are big, Good value, good service, tasty food. The restaurant is very clean. Almost too clean, since I've noticed a couple of times someone was eagerly mopping with disinfectant and there was almost a "too clean" smell.LOL..They have a nice family area too. Found by the tried and trusted technique - getting your taxi driver to take you to where he eats! This is a really good restuarant, no one speaks much English but the menu has pictures! All staff very friendly; you have the choice of eating while sitting on a carpeted dais or at 'normal; tables; choice of foods immense and all portions generous and tasty; try the afghani icecream - plain home made icecream with a pinch of herbs - giving an intruiging subtle aniseed ?fennel flavour. All quite cheap too. Shame there's no lager to round everything off perfectly. Value Service Food Atmosphere Review collected in partnership with this restaurant
