Description
Geetar is a genuine Sharjah institution, a pure-vegetarian Gujarati restaurant in Al Arouba that has been feeding the city's Indian community - families, students, and long-resident bachelors - for more than three decades. The dining room is plain and unshowy, with a small family section upstairs, and the appeal is emphatically in the food and the welcome rather than the surroundings.
The headline order is the unlimited Gujarati thali, priced at a level that feels like a throwback. Soft phulkas and hot pooris arrive straight from the tava, alongside two or three sabzis, a dal, rice or khichdi, salad, pickles, papad, yoghurt and unlimited chaas, with a sweet added on weekends. The servers circle constantly to top up bowls and insist on another round of rotis, and most diners walk out comfortably full. Fridays bring the seasonal undhiyu into the thali, and the sweets-and-chaat counter near the entrance handles samosas, vada, pav bhaji, ras malai and gajar halwa as takeaway or an early-evening snack.
This is a canteen-style restaurant rather than a polished dining experience, so expectations should be calibrated accordingly. Decor is dated, street parking can be difficult at peak mealtimes, and one or two of the sabzis occasionally run to the oily side. What Geetar offers instead is authentic, home-style Gujarati cooking at prices unheard of elsewhere in the emirate, served by staff whose hospitality turns a 15-dirham lunch into a warm and lingering meal. For vegetarians and anyone curious about the simple, comforting end of Indian regional cuisine, it remains one of Sharjah's most honest tables.

Have been visiting this place since my childhood. Well nothing much has changed- the food, the ambience, well even the waiters.... I simply love the Thali at this place- good rotis, simple yet greasy gravies etc. They do have a long list of dishes here but i like the Gujrathi Thali the most.
