Maharaja Cafe sits about eleven kilometres outside Fujairah city on the road heading to Khorfakkan beach, a practical mid-journey stop for drivers making the east-coast loop and one of the few kitchens between the city and the coast that takes presentation seriously. The dining room is compact, with private curtained table settings and a considered interior aesthetic that elevates the highway-stop category. The menu is Indian-forward with a short supporting cast of fusion starters. Butter chicken is the dish regulars single out - meaningfully better prepared than most city Indian rooms - along with dynamite shrimp and chicken tacos as the more interesting starters. The vegetarian line is strong: aloo paratha, roti, paneer butter masala and a complimentary pani puri starter set a solid tone. Portions are generous and presentation is plated with care. The caveats to know: there is no in-house toilet, seating is limited, and the location is essentially a highway stop rather than a destination. Prices are fair for the kitchen's quality, parking is ample and free, and service is quick and friendly. For a Khorfakkan road-trip lunch or an unexpectedly well-executed Indian dinner between destinations, Maharaja is worth the stop - plan bathroom breaks before arrival.
