The architecture is unmistakably of its era: a vast marble-and-hardwood lobby with panoramic glass elevators, an open atrium, and the kind of generous public space that newer towers no longer attempt. Rooms are sizeable and impeccably clean, fitted with comfortable beds, well-stocked minibars, coffee machines, and the full Marriott amenity kit. The trade-off, by current standards, is dated decor and notably small windows that let in limited daylight, a deliberate concession to the Saudi sun that not every guest will love. Food and beverage is the property's most consistent strength. Breakfast in the main restaurant is genuinely impressive, with hot stations to order, Indian, Middle Eastern and continental sections, fresh juices, and a busy fruit and pastry spread. Goji handles all-day dining with a polished service team, the Terrace Grill puts out a confident steakhouse menu with a live show in the evenings, and the Atrium Cafe is a reliable spot for sandwiches, salads and pastries between meetings. The M Club executive lounge is functional rather than glamorous, with hot food served in a tight evening window and round-the-clock coffee and snacks for elite members. Facilities include an integrated health club with a full gym, a roughly eighteen-metre pool, a hot jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and cold plunge, plus padel where the tennis court used to be. Equipment in the temporary gym skews older but is comprehensive, and the wellness areas remain clean and rarely crowded. Service across the lobby, food and beverage, and concierge teams is the property's other clear plus point, with several long-serving staff repeatedly singled out for genuine warmth. The most candid caveats are physical: parts of the hotel are visibly past due for a refresh, some rooms suffer traffic noise from the surrounding arterials, and Wi-Fi and in-room climate control can be inconsistent. Recognition of Bonvoy elite benefits has also drawn occasional complaints. There is little within walking distance beyond government buildings, so guests rely on the car or the nearby metro to reach restaurants and retail. For business travellers prioritising location near the older CBD, strong breakfast, and a deep amenity stack at a more accessible price than the newer luxury towers, this remains a sensible Riyadh base.
