The InterContinental Riyadh by IHG is one of the capital's longest-running five-star addresses, and the property still trades on a sense of formal, embassy-row hospitality. Set within walking distance of the diplomatic and ministerial quarter, the hotel draws a regular flow of corporate, government, and Bonvoy-style loyalty travellers who treat it as a steady home base. The lobby, sweeping public areas, and an unexpected bowling alley reinforce the scale of a hotel built for state events and large delegations rather than boutique stays.
Guestrooms are spacious and traditionally appointed, but it is worth being clear-eyed: the property is mid-renovation, and unrefurbished rooms feel their age in places, with dated finishes and bathroom layouts that combine tub and shower in a single enclosure. Anyone booking ahead of refurbishment should request an updated category, and during the works, occasional construction noise and the temporarily closed pool are realistic caveats. Where the hotel reliably excels is service: the front desk, concierge, and housekeeping teams are well-drilled and personable, and long-tenured staff remember repeat guests by name.
Dining and the Club lounge are the hotel's strongest cards. Al Bustan handles breakfast and themed evening buffets with a broad spread of Arabic and international dishes, and the Al Diwan lounge is a calm spot for afternoon coffee and the signature mint-lime welcome drink. The Club InterContinental floor, with its expansive lounge, all-day refreshments, and outdoor terrace, is one of the most generous executive lounges in Riyadh and the single biggest reason loyalty members return; if your rate or status allows, it is the access to book.
Facilities round out with a gym, spa, outdoor pool, tennis, and conference space sized for full delegations, plus easy reach of ministries, embassies, and the King Abdulaziz Conference Centre. The InterContinental suits business travellers and longer-stay corporate guests who value an established, well-located property and prize service over the freshest interiors. Leisure visitors looking for newer, more contemporary design will find sharper options elsewhere in the city, but for sheer reliability and a Club lounge that remains a local benchmark, this property still earns its place.
