Description
La Luna is a standalone Italian-Thai restaurant with two RAK outlets - one tucked behind Al Hamra Village facing the marina, and a second at Mina Al Arab's Lagoon Walk. It's the kind of place residents know well and visitors miss without a local tip: reasonable pricing, a sincere kitchen, and long-serving staff who genuinely remember regulars by name.
The menu runs an unusual dual track. The Italian side - built around a Bologna-rooted pizza recipe with a crisp thin base - is the reason most people come; the pastas with a particularly good pesto, the gelato programme and the fish and grill mains round it out. The Thai side, led by a Thai chef, delivers green curries, papaya salad and prawn glass-noodle dishes that hold up against dedicated Thai restaurants in the emirate, with spice levels adjusted to request.
Atmosphere is the weaker part of the experience; layout is awkward, signage doesn't do the room justice, and quiet evenings can feel underpopulated. Service is the strong point - warm, engaged, and noticeably better than the look of the room suggests. For delivery and takeaway the kitchen ranks among the city's best. For a sit-in dinner, go for the marina terrace with a pizza and a Thai main to sample both sides of the menu.
