The appeal here is not glass-and-marble novelty but the living experience of boarding a real ocean liner - the curved teak handrails, brass fittings, the arched doorways of the Queens Room, the bespoke QE2 wallpapers, the original art and maritime artefacts distributed along the staircases. A restored arrivals hall at the base of the gangway doubles as a quiet museum of the ship's Cunard years. Rooms span the old Britannia, Caronia, and higher-grade cabin categories. The cheaper inside and lower-deck cabins are clean, simply finished, and well stocked; the Royal Suite and higher-grade staterooms are worth the step up for a larger footprint, more natural light, and a balcony. In all cases, expect period layouts, contemporary bedding, and thoughtful mementoes of the ship. Dining centres on the Lido buffet for breakfast and dinner, the Golden Lion - positioned as Dubai's oldest pub - for classic pub food and beer, and the Chart Room and Queens Grill for afternoon tea and Sunday roast at weekends. Afternoon tea is the standout occasion, with polished silver service and a well-judged pastry programme. Guided Heritage Tours, including rare access to the bridge, are the other set-piece and are generally excellent; book in advance, as spaces are limited. Service across front office, restaurants, and the tour team is warm, attentive, and usually flexible. The ship is spotless inside, and housekeeping and the F&B teams consistently go the extra distance. Mina Rashid's wider Rashid Yachts and Marina development, opening in stages, is fast becoming a pleasant place to wander. A few honest caveats. The ship is a 1969 vessel in a desert climate, and parts of the exterior - the boat deck, upper deck, and some railings - show visible weathering and scaffolding; portions of the outside are periodically closed while work is underway. Several of the original fine-dining rooms remain shuttered, so evening options are essentially buffet or pub; the pool and gym have also been offline at times for essential maintenance. Guests should think of the QE2 as a heritage stay with hotel service rather than a flagship Dubai 5-star. Best for travellers drawn by maritime history, families wanting a genuinely novel night, and anyone looking for distinctive value well outside the usual skyline catalogue. The ship is a taxi ride from Deira, the Metro, and the older souks.
