We have just returned from yet another fabulous stay at the Dar Al Masyaf. We have been staying at the Dar Al Masyaf for around 18 years, and whilst we have seen many changes over the years, some things remain the same, namely, the beautifully maintained and pristine property, gardens, beach and waterways, the welcome, and the service, particularly from the pool bar and beach staff. Many have worked for Jumeirah for a long number of years and the wonderful welcome we receive from these familiar faces on arrival makes our stay all the more special. The service we receive daily from the excellent Sanjay and Rasika, together with Ali, Edward and Jose, and indeed all the pool and beach team, is second to none. By way of comparison, we spent the last 2 days of our latest holiday at the Burj Al Arab, and whilst the service was good, I would say that the service we received from the pool and beach staff at the Dar Al Masyaf, was superior to that which we received at the Burj. We look forward to seeing them all again on our next visit. As to our villa (Villa 10), again this is spacious and immaculate. Our housekeeper (Neelam) kept our room spotless, and our butler kept our glasses full at the Sundowner. I still believe that it is a mistake to move the timing of the Sundowner from 6-8pm, to 5-7pm, and I’m not sure why this has been done, as it is really too early for most, and has destroyed the interaction and exchange of recommendations etc between fellow guests. As to the butler service, we do miss there not being a butler at the Villa at all times. Having to use WhatsApp to book restaurants and transport isn’t really as convenient and a bit of a nuisance at times. I do think this is a backwards step. The restaurants are all of a very high standard. We had fantastic meals at Pierchic, The Bombay Club (at Masra Al Arab, the stunning new hotel next to the Burj Al Arab), Al Nafoorah, and Shimmers and would recommend all of them. Again, the service was very good in each. Badr at Al Nafoorah was excellent, and encouraged us to order dishes, we may not otherwise have tried. All delicious. We usually visit Dubai earlier in the year, avoiding the high summer, but would mention that October is very busy, in particular, breakfast and the beach. We would probably avoid this time of year in the future. This holiday was a birthday celebration, so it had to be October. The staff were especially good in recognising the birthday celebrations, with cakes, fruit, cards, and decorations in the Villa. Very much appreciated. Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Dar Al Masyaf, and will definitely return. The beauty and location of the property itself, is sufficient to make anyone want to return, but what makes our time there so special and unforgettable is the wonderful service from the staff, in particular, the pool bar and beach staff who make us feel so very welcome.

Our 16th year to DAM and the first time I have not given 5 stars. The resort is still fabulous. The grounds are well kept and the Villa concept is still great. However the Villa charm is fading . The drinks are still 5-7. You no longer have the intimacy of pre dinner drinks with other guests. Many of us are still on the beach at 5. The butler has long gone replaced by an E butler. There are many changes and restrictions now to the resort pools. We are no longer allowed to use JBH pool, Al Naseem etc. there is an additional charge for this ! Yet the small Villa pools are still used by children from families who seem to use the Villa pools as baby sitting services. Children are left in the pool with large floats and balls and the life guard is left to watch over them. This is the second year we have watched this happen. They are no longer peaceful havens if you don’t want to use Celeste or the Al qasr pool. I was not the only guest to complain about this with beds being reserved and groups of taking over. Management are v quick with their new rules on other pools but are oblivious to this. Maybe the Villa pools need to be adult only also. Our room was so hot every evening. We complained and we were offered another room in the same grade Villa . Upheaval with the possibility of the same. Instead they put a fan in the room. We noted from other guests the same thing had happened. They moved 3 times ending up in the Al Naseem hotel ! The Promenade for breakfast is no longer Al La carte. This set it aside from the Al qasr hotel. A la carte with a small buffet if you so wished. It is now small buffet only. Delighted tho to see Gigi still there. The Al Qasr pool is a disgrace. The tiles are in need of repair . Many accidents occurred while we were there. I understand a pool is being built on the beach as the Al Qasr pool will close summer 2026. It will be interesting to see how this impacts people’s choices when booking next years holiday. The half board choices continues to shrink. If you are there for more than 10 days unless you want a buffet you are then looking at the restaurants with supplements. Why do I want to pay an additional £50 pp for some pasta or a pai Thai when I have already paid for half board. All around Dubai new hotels are popping up not least the Marsa Al Arab on the resort . Many guests at DAM are loyal guests who return year after year and each year there are more changes and more rules and not for the better. DAM is like our second home but when writing this I question whether I need to start looking elsewhere.
