Merdost is a Turkish restaurant on Bida Bin Ammar, conveniently positioned on the main route between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi just past the UAE University bridge. The dining room leans into warm, theatrical Turkish decor, and the kitchen draws from a broad menu that spans classic Anatolian grills, pides, mezze and occasional Iranian and Italian crossovers, giving groups and families plenty to share.
The cooking is at its best when it stays close to the Turkish canon. Mercimek soup, hummus and fresh-baked bread make a reliable opening, while the charcoal grills - lamb in particular - and vegetable pide are the dishes to order. Hünkar beğendi and the mixed grill come in generously sized portions, and the Turkish coffee and sweets are a worthwhile close to a meal. Breakfast is a notable draw, served in abundance and popular with weekend visitors.
Atmosphere-wise, a live tableside show with music and a lemon-juice-on-the-flame flourish adds character for some diners, though it can feel intrusive if you are looking for a quiet evening - worth knowing when booking. Service is warm and attentive more often than not, but consistency slips during busier periods, and prices sit on the higher side for Al Ain. Reservations are advisable, especially at weekends.
For travellers breaking up the Abu Dhabi to Al Ain drive, or locals after a proper Turkish grill in a lively, family-friendly setting, Merdost is a dependable choice, best approached with an appetite and a preference for showmanship at the table.

The restaurant looks nice outside and in but...... The food was tasteless, burnt and not very nice. The cocktails were revolting. It is overpriced, no one in the place if Turkish and I don't appreciate having a waiter smack on the window in front of me, making me jump so he can share the excitement (I use the term loosely) of him throwing lemon juice onto a barbeque flame. Whoop whoop! Our waiter was nice though. Don't go, it's a waste of money
