The Horse and Jockey may have felt like a "Airport Departure Lounge Pub" but it had two great things going for it. They had the best cider in Al Ain by far (Gaymers, and yes you can get that in the Trader Vic's beer garden during the winter but not inside) and the curries which were cooked by the Indian restaurant next door were fantastic. Best place in town for a curry and a quality pint. So here we are now, our first visit since McGettigan's have taken over and refurbished the bar. The only cider on offer is Magners (which I really do not rate) and they are charging 35dhs a pint! Sorry, this is not Dubai. The spirits range is a lot less than before with noticeable less choice. Our friends had a Sprite and nearly choked when they saw the price! The vindaloo was mediocre and I'd be amazed if that came from the Tanjour. I suspect they now cook their own as it is probably a franchise as opposed to being part of the hotel itself. My food arrived so far before my wife's I was nearly finished before her meal came. Does the venue look better? Absolutely! It's a Dubai 5* hotel standard bar in Al Ain. However you are also paying Dubai prices and the quality of the food and drink is a lot lower than it was in the H&J (so far, the menu did say pre-opening so may be they are just getting used to it). All-in-all I was very disappointed. Value Service Food
