As we had been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi on previous trips we decided to do something different and arranged a private tour with Tours by Locals - a great expereince. Our tour included a visit to a camel racing track and the Camel Hospital outside Dubai. While seeing the non touristy sights of Al Ain we we offered the choice of going to lunch at the India Palace Restaurant, which we were happy to try. The restaurant is situated on a corner of the main street and a side street so we got to people watch without being intrusive. The restaurant has a downstairs (for men and "visitors") and an upstairs with screened rooms for local families to dine in. We were impressed by the smartly dressed in traditional clothes locals. The Indian cuisine was amongst the very best we have had anywhere in the world including India and Brick Lane in London. It was fresh vibrant and the sauces and breads (naan and roti) were to die for. The service was very good as were Lassi (yogurt) drinks. We would gladly come here again and travel the 140 kms from Dubai just to dine in the India Palace Restaurant.
