Desert Gate is the all-day signature restaurant at Telal Resort, set among the dunes on the edge of Al Ain and framed by one of the more striking settings in the region. The indoor dining room is richly designed in a warm, contemporary desert palette, and in cooler months the outdoor terrace opens onto an uninterrupted desert view - the single best argument for the drive out of the city.
The menu spans international dishes with Arabic and regional accents, and the kitchen is confident across styles. Buffet breakfast and lunch feature extensive ethnic and western spreads, with a made-to-order egg station anchoring the morning service. At dinner, the local fish, chicken biryani, Thai chicken curry, and a Telal chicken sandwich are standout a la carte orders, and portions are generous enough that sharing is the better strategy. Kid-friendly pizzas and a short pastry counter round out the family offer. Prices are reasonable for the setting and the resort context, and the buffets represent particularly fair value.
One non-trivial caveat for some diners: as with the rest of Telal Resort, Desert Gate does not serve alcohol. Guests planning a wine-led dinner will need to adjust expectations accordingly; the mocktail and fresh-juice list are the alternatives, and they are carefully done rather than an afterthought.
Service is the other variable. On quieter nights and with the longer-tenured floor team and F&B management, hospitality is warm and attentive, and regulars single out individual servers by name. During resort peaks and with newer staff on the floor, pacing and polish dip, and breakfast in particular can run uneven on very busy mornings.
For a calm desert breakfast, a mid-week lunch on the terrace, or a family dinner at the end of a day in the sands, Desert Gate is the obvious and only choice at Telal - a relaxed, visually memorable restaurant that rewards timing and deliberate ordering.
