Al Diwan is a long-running Arabic restaurant in central Al Ain that has quietly held its place in the city's dining landscape for close to two decades. The menu is broadly Middle Eastern with Lebanese, Persian and Yemeni influences, and a handful of Italian and Chinese plates for mixed tables - but the kitchen is at its most assured when it stays in Levantine and Gulf territory.
The opening act is the strength of the place: mezze of hummus, fattoush, tabbouleh, mutabbal, stuffed vine leaves and hot Iranian bread, all prepared with fresh ingredients and arriving generously portioned. The signature is hummus with spiced lamb and pine nuts - still made with real pine nuts rather than shaved almonds - and it is a benchmark order. For mains, the charcoal grills excel: lamb shanks, mixed grill, shish taouk and kebabs come with rice and chips in portions that easily feed a family. Hammour fillet is a reliable seafood alternative, and the pressed, slightly caramelised flatbread-and-rice platters with fish or chicken are worth seeking out.
Pricing is fair by Al Ain standards and noticeably kinder than comparable Arabic restaurants in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. The dining room is clean and unfussy rather than designed, better suited to a family dinner or a long, relaxed lunch than a special occasion. Service is warm and experienced when the room is quiet, but pacing can stretch during Ramadan iftar and busy evenings, and a few visits report slips on takeaway orders and billing - worth a quick check on the way out.
Close the meal with fresh mint tea and a round of Arabic sweets. Takeaway is brisk and popular with regulars who treat Al Diwan as a neighbourhood kitchen rather than a destination restaurant.

Al Diwan is one of the restaurants inside the very famous desert resort Al Maha. It is exclusive and serves lunch and Dinner. I was told that Dinner is better and beautiful as its in the middle of the desert and all very quiet but I preferred lunch as one could see the very beautiful desert conservation right from the edge of the restaurant. In winters; from November the verandah is opened and one can relax and enjoy a drink and food just facing the vast expanse of the desert. If you book a table for food for lunch then you get to select one starter, one main course and one dessert. if one does not have dessert one can have two starters or main courses. The quality and service is very very good . Value Service Food
