Royal Mughal is Al Ain Mall's anchor for North Indian and Mughlai cooking, tucked into the upper-floor extension near the Iranian restaurant and just beyond Applebee's. The dining room leans unapologetically regal - gold finishes, private family cabins, a candlelit sense of occasion - which is part of the draw for families marking a celebratory meal. The kitchen is at its strongest on the classic Mughlai repertoire. Murgh mughlai, a cashew-and-cream chicken curry, is the kind of dish regulars return for, and butter chicken is handled with a gentle, balanced sweetness rather than the oversweet version served elsewhere. The Mutton Rahra, a spicier lamb curry, is a worthwhile order for those who want more heat. Chicken lollipop, seekh kebab, fish kebab and pahadi kebab open a meal well; shahi paneer and masala bhindi are dependable vegetarian choices; and biryani, butter naan, paratha and dal tadka round out a full family table. Spice levels are tuned to a broad audience, so ask the kitchen to lift the heat if you want it closer to Delhi-standard. Ambience is calm and family-friendly, with private cabins for groups who want privacy. Service under the floor manager is warm and attentive on weekday evenings, though pacing and small details (table resetting, appetiser timing, complimentary papadum) can slip when the room is quiet or on busy weekends. This is our favorite restaurant... dare I say it, in the world. We have been in Al Ain for 2 years and are now moving. It saddens us to know that we may never again visit Dubai (Royal) Mughal. Over the past 2 years, we've brought many people with us to this restaurant. The service and food are always fantastic and the people we bring continue to visit even without us. It's moved from the outside corner of the mall to inside and upstairs, near the Iranian restaurant and just outside of Applebee's. I've tried almost all of their Indian dishes, including Mutton, Chicken, Seafood & Vegetarian. My wife gets the same thing (murgh mughali - chicken in a cashew and cream curry) each time b/c she loves it, so does my little boy (butter chicken). That suits me b/c they are both great dishes and I get to have some of them while experimenting. It's hard to pick a favorite, but one of the best dishes to date was probably the Mutton RahRah, which is a spicy curry with lamb. I also always get a sweet lime soda. It makes me very sad to know I have one more week before moving away for many reasons, but this restaurant is one of them. I have visited Al Ain several times with family and friends, and have always been on the look out for a good indian restaurant with a great atmosphere but yet not expensive. My search finally ended when we visited Royal Mughal restaurant, located in the Al Ain Mall extention. The food and ambience was excellent, and the restaurant was very conveniently located. Additionally, the food was well priced which is important since I have a big family. On the whole, we were all very please and highly recommend this restaurant. One one must visit restaurant when in Al AIn.. Tasty & good service. This is our favorite restaurant..have visited Al Ain several times with family and friends, and have always been here. The food and ambience was excellent, and the restaurant was very conveniently located. Additionally, the food was well priced which is important since I have a big family.
