The room is unusually spacious for the category, dim and clubby with generous gaps between tables, a long central bar, pool tables, a dart board, and a wall of large screens carrying the weekend fixture list and most major international sport. The drinks programme is the anchor. Beer is kept at the cheaper end of the UAE hotel market, with a good line-up on tap and by the bottle, a respectable wine list with options by the glass, and a considered cocktail menu. A well-judged happy hour runs in the early evening, and the bar's snack plates, black olives, peanuts, and nut mixes, come out freely with drinks. The food menu is intentionally compact and classic: crispy calamari, chicken fries with parmesan, a hefty kebab sandwich, and bar classics in generous, sharing-scale portions. Prices on both drink and food land fairly for a five-star hotel setting. Service is where Xolo earns its regulars. The bar team is visibly tenured and genuinely warm, greeting returning faces by name and steering first-timers through the menu without pressure. That sense of a local pub far from home, more than the setting itself, is what pulls guests back across multi-night stays. The honest caveats are straightforward: the room has no natural light, being a basement, the food menu is shorter than the bar programme deserves and would benefit from more variety, and the space can carry cigarette smoke once it fills up in the later evening. Come for sport, a long night of fairly priced drinks with the pool cues out, or a relaxed end to a Fairmont stay, and Xolo holds up as one of the more dependable sports bars on the corniche.
