last week
I was put off immediately when we walked in and the woman on the welcome desk informed my partner that he may not be able to come in as he was wearing shorts. I explained that I had looked on their website and this was not mentioned. She told me I should have read my booking confirmation email - why would you assume people read this when the booking was confirmed immediately online. My partner was very smartly dressed in loafers and a long sleeve shirt and looked far smarter than the man in scruffy jeans and trainers that was sitting inside. Anyway, we were reluctantly let in and taken to the bar as we were told we were 10 minutes too early. We sat there for 25 minutes in the end waiting to be seated while numerous locals were seated in the meantime. I will say the service from the barman was the best we had all evening, he was very friendly and made great drinks. After asking for the second time we were finally seated. The menus were given to us and having not eaten before we had no idea what the concept was and how much we should be ordering between us. There was no explanation or anything. The waiter came back looking rushed and told us to just order what we wanted and that we could order more later, no recommendations or care given. The food was ok…the tempura was underdone, the prawns were overdone, it was all just ok. Nobody asked how our meal was. We kept having to stop people to order more drinks or food as we were pretty much being ignored. We ended up paying around £400 for an average meal, 4 soft drinks and 4 alcoholic drinks. I couldn’t help but feel the team there were arrogant and preferred to give their attention to locals rather than those they deem as tourists. It’s a shame as it has put us off returning.
